Service ProfileBeoSound 3200 :: Types 2681 - 2690 |
BeoSound 3200 technical introduction:
CD mechanism:
The visible CD player plays both 12 and 8
cm discs. The mechanism is a CD PRO II with CD10 single chip concept with
Bitstream D/A converter.
Tuner:
- steps of 50 kHz and fine tuning in 12,5 kHz
- active multiplex filters in the stereo
decoder gives optimal suppression of the 19 kHz pilot tone sub-carrier
- AM tuner is optimised for loop antennas. Long wires and active antennas may
be used as an alternative
- new three step AGC is incorporated, so the large signal handling is improved
-
RDS included as standard. RDS hardware and software have been improved, so it is
possible to decode RDS at antenna level which is approximately 12 dB lower than
the previous BC2300 solution
- the Tuner uses a new fast tuning method on FM. A scan through the FM band takes
only 7 sec. (with no antenna signal), making it one of the fastest in the
market. A scan in BC2300 or BeoSound Ouverture takes in comparison 28 seconds
Power supply:
-
5 Vac is used for two lamps on the front
panel
-
5 V is used for several PCBs IR, Display, CD, µP, Tuner etc.
-
10 V is used for CD servo & decoder
Magic door opening:
The 120 kHz double circuit contains an IR-receiver diode and an IR-transmitter
diode for the optical feedback; a set for left-and right-hand side. Both systems
(L & R) have to be active to open the glass doors

HDR-A module:
The CD memory function is based on a Hard Disc Recorder - Audio module which
needs to be replaced as a complete module exchange chassis part when servicing. It
is placed where the CC tape deck is placed in a BeoSound Ouverture. Access is
possible by removing the front keyboard panel.
When a dealer experiences problems with
the CD memory function, it is possible to test both the reproduced SP/DIF
digital signal (from the CD player) and the copied signal (from the CD memory)
by using the CD playability test disc SBC444A track 10, 17 and 19. These tracks
must be reproduced without problems or sound dropouts from both the CD player
and the CD memory function when testing the recording.
By listening to SBC444A (track 10, 17 and
19) during copying, the CD player is tested.
By listening to the copy of the three
tracks, the CD memory function is tested. If it is concluded that there is a
fault on the HDR-A module, it must be replaced.
It is a good idea to get the
customer's Compact Disc with the repair, if it seems to a problem with the CD
memory function as the cause very well may be Compact Disc related. Especially,
you can expect problems from CD-R/RWs as you do not know the quality of the
source material, the burner or the CD-R/RW disc. Also copy-protected discs
(typically without Compact Disc logo on them) have been produced out of Compact
Disc standard and may give problems.
The CD memory function on the HDR-A module
cannot be blamed for bad quality from the source material. Therefore, it is
recommended to use the SBC444A test disc at the dealer before the type of repair
is chosen.
It will be possible to copy music data from
a working HDR-A to a service HDR-A unit by using the HDR-A service kit. Note
that faults on the original material will also be copied.
Recommend the customer to delete faulty
tracks and try again after checking the original CD sound - if you hear a fault
when playing the CD, this fault will of course be copied to the hard disc.
Service will normally be possible to
complete within 30 minutes. It may take up to one hour to copy a full Hard Disc.
Service
Programmes:
Test Mode:
All codes are described in the service manual.
In terms of service, no "manual" adjustment
is necessary - all hardware adjustments can be accessed via Testmode
Bang & Olufsen expects this fault detection programme will be of great help in
connection with servicing the product
Accessories
Programmer:
It is possible to use the Programmer for
programming radio naming/frequencies. When using the Programmer, it is no longer
necessary to type in the type no. - just press RADIO - antenna setup no. (1 to
8) - and PROGR.

A Cover to the product is available, the ordering number is: 3657455
PIN
code protection
General description:
The PIN code protection is a 4-digit
code, of the user's own choice, which must be entered if the product has been
disconnected from the mains for between 15-30 min. Until
15 March 2003 the PIN
code protection is deactivated from the factory. From this date an ever-increasing number of products will be equipped with the PIN code activated
at the factory. The activated protection is introduced gradually so there will be a
period of six months where you can tell from the packaging if the protection has
been activated. The packaging will be labelled with the text: "PIN code
protected".
Before the product is handed in to service it is recommended that the customer deactivates the PIN code protection.
Service:
Service code
If the PIN code is activated and the product is in a service situation, there is
a possibility of 12 hours service by entering a 5 digit Service code which is
11111. This gives 12 hours of full functionality to service the product and make
module changes without naming/registering the exchanged modules to the
Customer's product. The 12 hours are only running when the product is connected
to mains.
If the customer PIN code or Master code is entered the exchanged modules will
be named/registered to the product. Registration of the modules cannot be
changed.
The service code must be entered When a
source is selected and the product asks for the PIN code "PIN ____" press down
the << (rewind) button for three seconds. The display now writes "PIN *****",
and the Service code 11111 can be entered.
Master code
If the PIN code has been forgotten (5 tries every 3 hour with mains connected),
the only way to unlock the product again is by entering the 5-digit Master code.
The Master code can be ordered at a Bang & Olufsen dealer. Once the code is keyed in, the
product is operational again and the PIN code system is deactivated.
When a source is selected and the product asks for the PIN code "PIN ____",
press down << (rewind) for three seconds and the display asks for 5 digits
instead of 4 : "PIN *****" ; enter the 5 digit Master code.
Note:
When the serial number has been transferred to the micro-processor it can only be
used for this specific product; it must go back to Bang & Olufsen's module
repair department as an exchange module to be erased again.
If the product functions are OK, the PIN code theft protection is also OK; there
is no need for testing the functionality of the PIN code protection.
When the product is connected to mains, wait 20-30 seconds before operating. All
addresses in ML have to be updated after disconnecting mains voltage.
