BeoCenter 2 Service Profile
BeoCenter 2 is an integrated system
designed for audio or audio/video home-entertainment setups offering DVD, CD audio and radio. It will take its main position in the
main room where its prime functionality is to distribute picture and sound to
a AV system. The product will also be able to distribute its sources
through the Beolink system to other rooms. BeoCenter 2 can play back DVD video
and distribute radio simultaneously.
BeoCenter 2 will be able to play an important role together with BeoVisions, acting as a normal audio master with the facility of exporting its DVD video signal to the TV.

Servicing the
units:
BeoCenter 2 is a two piece setup: a
Master unit and a separate Socket unit interconnected by one cable only which
holds supply voltages and video and audio signals. The Master unit is
operation panel, DVD loader and display and the Socket unit holds all external
cable connections to the surrounding products and mains. Both products have
been built up by separate modules depending on the functionality which makes
it easier to perform fault-finding and on-site service.
The Master unit has just one variant for
all markets. When connected to the separate Socket unit and 'DVD' is pressed,
the unit is dedicated to the Socket unit's DVD region code. The DVD region code can be
changed if necessary using the Service Tool (3658949).
The Socket Panel has separate type numbers
for each market due to country approvals and DVD region code.
The Socket Panel includes the necessary
cable for connecting the two parts as well as a mains lead. In some variants
antennas and Beo4 remote control may be included.
Installation and presetting
All connections are made on the separate
Socket Panel.
The mains voltage is determined by the
type no. of the Socket Panel. There are only two internal mains voltage
settings (a jumper 60J10 p/n 7210406) on the Switch Mode Power Supply, 85 -
132V and 187 - 264V AC). Automatic adaptation to mains frequency 50 or 60Hz.
The FM/AM tuning and the DVD/CD can be used directly via the close-up
operation panels.
The Service menu on the Master
unit is accessed by choosing the setup menu b.m.o. >> and then
pressing 0 0 GO

By means of the Service Tool other service possibilities are available:
PIN Code protection: general description:
The theft protection is a 4 digit PIN-code, of the user's own choice, which must be entered if the product has been disconnected from the mains for 15-30 min. The theft protection is always activated from the factory, it is up to the user to deactivate it, or change it to another PIN Code.
Service:
Service code
If the PIN-code is activated
and the product is in a service situation, there is a possibility of
12-hours service by entering a 5 digit Service code which is 11111.
This gives 12 hours of full functionality to service the product and
make module changes without naming/register the exchanged modules to
the Customers product. The 12 hours is only running when the product
is connected to mains.
The service code must be
entered when a source is selected and the product asks for the
PIN-code “PIN _ _ _ _”.
Press LIST << << EXIT to get access to PIN Code, and << << << to
open for Master code input.
Select the Service code digits 11111.
The display shows "PIN Code not deleted"; and the product can be
used for 12 hours before going into PIN Code protection.
Master code
If the PIN-code has been
forgotten (5 tries every 3 hours with mains connected), the only way
to unlock the product again is by entering the 5-digit Master code.
The Master code can be ordered through Bang & Olufsen. Once the code
is keyed in, BeoCenter 2 becomes operational again and the PIN code
system is deactivated.
Press LIST << << EXIT to get
access to PIN Code, and << << << to open for Master code input.
Enter the Master code
"PIN Code deleted" appears in the display indicating that the PIN
code system is deactivated and a new PIN Code can be chosen.
Exchange of PCB6 (Main PCB)
If the µPH8 on the
Socket unit is exchanged this can be undertaken without any problems. The exchange
module contains a “digital exchange-code” which make it able to
adapt the identity of the product. The data will be transferred
after 12-hours or if the PIN Code protection is operated unless
with the Service code. This means that the
exchange module can be tested for for 12 hours before it adapts the identity of the
product and in a locked situation you can unlock the product with
the Service code without naming the module to the product.
